Rooted - Strong to the Core

VAULT 2024

Cedarview Alliance Church, 2784 Cedarview Rd, Nepean, ON K2J 4J2.
Saturday Oct 26, 2024, 8:30am to 3:30pm

VAULT was born out of a desire to contribute to the equipping and encouraging of children and family ministry workers in the Ottawa and surrounding areas. Initially it began with an idea of gathering and sharing resources and experiences, from the network of churches in the area. Then, valuable resources and experiences from curriculum publishers and guest speakers were added. Together, by opening a shared vault or treasure of information, it was envisaged that a day of workshops could be organized and offered to workers (both adult & youth) that would engage and encourage those who are serving and learning how to reach children and families for Christ!

The vision is that workers would attend VAULT and experience encouragement through praise & worship & sharing; explore a time of equipping to serve in children & family ministries through workshops and resources; and engage in the opportunity to connect and build relationships. In all, it is our prayer that those who attend would be strengthened to serve The Lord in this important calling in ministry to children and families, and gain a greater Kingdom perspective of ministry.

2. How to Share the Gospel with Children – David Guyatt, CEF Ontario Church Connections Dir.

The gospel is at the heart of everything we teach kids. It is the hope of new life and power for living out the new life we have been given in Christ. But how do we communicate the essential truths of the gospel to children? In this session, we will be diving into what the gospel is and how to teach it to kids in a way they understand clearly. You will walk away from this session with practical tools and resources for how to share the gospel with children.

3. Equipping on Purpose – Rebecca McKendry

In this workshop, identifying potential, cultivating relationships, understanding youth, and developing gifts will be explored through the lens of purposeful leadership. The goal is to help participants reconnect personally with their God-given purpose as they explore what it looks like to meaningfully inspire, support, and equip youth in their ministries to understand their own foundational purpose as active members of the body of Christ. As leaders, we must lead from a place that’s rooted in God’s purposes for us because it is from there that we will experience the empowerment needed to be effective in our ministries.

4. Make Review Fun and Effective!! Pam Rowntree, Bible Centred Ministries

Discover some great ideas and games to review your Bible teaching in fun and interesting ways! This session will include the “how to” of leading a review game/activity successfully. A great session for teachers and helpers.

5. Bible Teaching in Creative Ways – Pat Einarsson

Explore creative ways to tell and teach a Bible story. This workshop will provide hands-on examples of how to reach kids by adding creative elements to share the truth of the Bible.

SESSION TWO

1. Panel Discussion: Volunteer Recruitment, Development, and Care

Come and share your experiences, challenges, and questions regarding this important topic as we seek best practices and proven strategies for ensuring that regular Children’s Ministries environments and teaching are available, no matter what size or location of your church.

2. Classroom Management and Relationship Building – Gabriel & Estella Lam – CEF  Missionaries

In this Workshop you will learn about three components that lead to disciplinary problems along with strategies to prevent them from happening. We will also explore practical ways to build relationships and create a loving learning environment for children.

3. Balloon Art Creations – Laurence Lau

Come discover the joy of Balloon Art as you join a hands-on workshop and learn how to make creative balloon animals and shapes that will help you connect with kids!  This is a valuable and fun skill to learn for adults and youth helpers serving in children and family ministries to connect with kids and with God.

4. Disability and Belonging in Children’s Ministries – Jasmine Duckworth  Karis Disability Services

Each child is loved by God and deserves to belong, so how do we ensure that our children’s ministries are welcoming to all, including kids with disabilities? This workshop will cover some foundational concepts about disability, introduce some concepts from disability theology, and share practical tips and tools to create spaces where all kids can belong.

5. Multiple Intelligences – The 8 Great Smarts – Phil Whitehead, Bible Centred Ministries

Why we learn and process ideas differently. “Smart” is a power word. Children who believe they are smart, excel more in school and approach life with greater confidence, but children who don’t can struggle to apply themselves. In this seminar “8 Great Smarts” we will explore how children are specifically wired to learn and how as parents and children’s ministry workers we can motivate our children to learn and study.

Key Note Speaker: Shelley Good

We’re excited and grateful to have Shelley as our keynote speaker for VAULT 2024. She brings years of experience and enthusiasm in Children’s Ministries to share. Shelley has been involved with the Ottawa CFM Network for many years and has led engaging workshops at previous VAULT conferences.

Pastor Shelley graduated with a Bachelor of Theology in Educational Ministry. After graduating, she ministered for three years in the Ottawa Valley as Christian Education Pastor and Director of Pastoral Care. Shelley is Married to Clive Good. Shelley has been Woodvale’s pastor of Children’s Ministries since September 2002.

As Children’s Pastor, she is dedicated to leading all children in Jesus’s footsteps and disciple them to become genuine followers of Christ. Pastor Shelley believes that children are a vital part of the body of Christ and it is her vision to see them living in the fullness of their potential as His disciples.

Shelley Good is committed to presenting Christ to children in a relatable and practical way and inspiring them to stand out for Him in their generation.  She believes that the key to influencing the next generation is to inspire, equip, and empower those who lead them.  Shelley is passionate about the need for churches to create welcoming spaces for children, and her favorite verse to quote is Matthew 18:5 when Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
